ENEMY SHIPPING.
SEIZURE AS PRIZE. REGULATIONS ISSUED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 29. The classes of ships that may be seized as prize by tho Collectors or Customs on behalf of His Alajesty’s Government in New Zealand are defined in the Shipping Seizure Emergency Regulations issued as a supplementary Gazette to-day. The term “enemy ship” is deemed to include any ship belonging to or under the control of the government or any national or any country that for the time being is: (1; -At war with His Alajesty; (2) in occupation of the forces of anv country at war with His Alajesty; (3) under the control-of any country K at war with His Alajesty. Subject to certain exemptions the following ships may be seized: (1) Any enemy ship; (2) any neutral ship engaged in rendering mi neutral service; (3) any neutral ship engaged in a breach of the blockade; (4) any neutral ship which is herself contraband of war. The exemptions are: (1) Ships protected by a British or Allied pass or license; (2) hospital ships as provided by The Hague Convention, 1907, also neutral boats having on board tho wounded, sick or shipwrecked of the belligerents; (3) enemy vessels employed exclusively in coast fisheries or small boats employed in local trade, but excluding deep-sea fishing craft; (4) enemy ships while exclusively engaged on religious, scientific, or philanthropic missions; (5) enemy ships employed as cartel ships.
