LESSON OF GALLIPOLI.
APPLICATION TO NORWAY. BOLD ACTION SUGGESTED. LONDON, April 27. Admiral of the Fleet Sir Roger Keyes made the annual dinner of the Diggers Abroad Association the medium for an impassioned appeal to the Government not to forget the lesson of Gallipoli in tile present Norwegian campaign. “We were not defeated by the enemy at Gallipoli but by a pusillanimous Government torn by conflicting advice and fearful of its responsibility, which failed to make the brave decisions which would most surely have led to victory,” lie said. “You Anzaes played a glorious part in a campaign which will live forever.” Sir Roger then gave a detailed account of the Gallipoli operation, saying that he hoped it would reach other cars and that its lessons would be taken to heart and would save another amphibious expedition from experiene- j liig the same cruel disappointments. “It was torture to watch the sufferings of soldiers when I knew that a bold naval stroke would end them and perhaps decide the war,” he said. “I appeal to the Government to steel their hearts and he worthy of the fighting men who willingly face the most desperate hazards.” Sir Roger Keyes sat at a table lined with diplomats, statesmen and generals, including Mr W T . J. Jordan (New Zealand High Commissioner), Dr Belies (ex-President of Czechoslovakia) and the Polish Ambassador.
