ELECTRIC POWER.
HOROWHENUA BOARD. At a meeting of the Horowhenua Electric Power Board Mr G. A. Monk presided. The passing of the late Prime Minister was referred to by the chairman and members stood in silence as a manifestation of their respect. A letter from the Electric Power Boards’ and Supply Authorities’ Association dealt with the question of the legality of interest-free loans and gifts for war purposes. It intimated that without special validating legislation boards and supply authorities could not assist in this direction unless by way of unauthorised expenditure.— The chairman said he felt the idea behind the call for interest-free loans and .donations towards the prosecution of the war was that they should come from flic people rather than local bodies.
The finance committee (the chairman and Messrs T. G. Vincent and A. iSeilert), together with Mr Keedwell, were appointed to bring down the estimates at the May meeting. The committee, with the addition of Air A. E, Hyde, the engineer (Air J. A. Smith) and the secretary (Air R. A. Frederickson). were deputed to obtain further information regarding the proposed new office building. The engineer in his report stated that an analysis of the total connected load at Alareh 31 disclosed the following information : Heating points 9840, industrial motors 98S. milking motors '291, ranges 1490. and water heaters 1896. The total number of consumers was 5804. During the period 22 applications for installations had l>een received from new consumers, and 68 for extensions to existing installations.
