PIPE BANDS.
CENTRE EXECUTIVE MEETS. At a meeting of the executive of the Wellington-Hawke’s Ray Ripe Rand Centre in Palmerston North the bal-ance-sheet of the recent centre contest was presented and adopted. Congratulations were extended to the organ.sing committee on the financial result. The Port Ahuriri Caledonian Society’s Pipe Rand was affiliation. increasing the number ol affiliations to twenty. The secretary presented a cup for competition among the college bands of the centre, for the highest aggregate points in the quickstep and test selection, it is not intended to institute a separate competition, but it will be run in conjunction with the open events. The cup will be the Cray Nasmith Cup. A move for concerted action on the part of all pipe bands in the centre to raise funds to equip all. New Zealand forces going overseas with bagpipes was taken. The secretary reported that pipe bands in Wellington had already held a display for the purpose and had raised more than £SO. This amount had been handed to the National Patriotic Eund Board, and had been earmarked for the purchase of bagpipes and drums, the fund to I>o operated only on the advice and with the approval of the centre. It was resolved to congratulate the Wellington bands on their action and to suggest to other bands in the province that they follow the lead given and hold displays in their centre. It was resolved to request any person or organisation having drums or bagpipes for disposal to communicate with the secretary.
