Mr and Mrs M. Ward, Mr and Mrs Ridd and Mr J. Ridd are Palmerston North visitors to Wellington. % Mrs C. King, of Fitzherbert. Avenue, will return home this evening after a visit to Wellington. Mrs T. It. Bird, of Tauranga is paying a short visit to her parents, Mr and Mrs F. J. Oakley, of Rainforth Street.

Mrs E. B. Jennings, who has had to retire from the secretaryship of the women’s section of the Palmerston North branch of the National Party owing to health reasons, was accorded the thanks of the members for her fine services and appreciation was placed on record at the annual meeting. The death has occurred in Sydney of Mrs Blow, wife of Mr W. li. Blow, who for main' years was the New Zealand Government representative in New South Wales. Mrs Blow was born in Wellington and lived at Lower Hutt until her marriage. Miss Jane Anna Mowbray, for many years Auckland president of the Victoria League, has passed away in her 87th year. The Order of tne British Empire was conferred on her by the King in 1934. In 1939 she was made an honorary life president of the league as a tribute to her work.

The death occurred at Katana Pa yesterday of Mrs T. W. Katana, widow of the Maori prophet. She was born in 1873 in Wlienuakura, near Patea, and did much to assist her husband in his work in founding the Katana Movement. She toured the world with the Katana party in 1924. Mrs Katana is survived by two sons, the M.P. for Western Maori, Mr M. T. Katana, and Mr Matthew Katana, ' and three daughters. At her residence, Ruthven Lodge, Havelock North, on Thursday evening, the deatli occurred of Sirs Jane Guthrie, aged 8(5, who was well-known throughout Hawke's Bay and elsewhere. She was the widow of the late Mr William Guthrie, who established the first commercial orchard in Hawke’s Bay.
