THREE LIVES LOST.
POLICE BESIEGE MURDERER. SYDNEY, April 25. Upward of 50 police had a sensational encounter with a murderer at Wollongong to-day, culminating in the loss of three lives, the victims being George Hinsby, aged 60, crane driver, of Port Kcmbla steelworks; his wife, Amelia Hinsby, aged 45; and a detective, John Edward Dunn, aged 30, who only recently was married. Tho " police ascertained that Hinsby had a dispute with his wife and shot her with a rifle. Tile son and daughter, aged 17 and 11, were ordered out by their father, who fired a shot after his son, which missed. A neighbour was summoned, and he also was ordered away, but he called the police. (Several arrived, including Detective Dunn. Hinsby refused to allow them into his house and pointed the rifle, causing them to withdraw. The police requisitioned fear gas and extra police from Sydney. They then began firing rifles and revolvers into the house, calling upon Hinsby to surrender. Suddenly Dunn foil dead on the footpath, shot through the forehead. Eventually a couple of police saw Hinsby lying dead on a bod with the rifle in liis hand. Apparently he had committed suicide after the three hours’ siege. His wife’s body was found on the kitclien floor.
