AUCKLAND WEST.
LABOUR CANDIDATE. NATIONAL CONSIDERATION. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 25. The selection of Mr P. Carr aa official Labour Party candidate to contest the by-election for the Auckland West seat in the House of Representatives, rendered vacant by the death of the late Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, was announced at a meeting of members or the Auckland West branch of the Labour Party and affiliated -trades umon r ists living in the electorate, held at Poiisonby on Wednesday night. A trannvay .motorman in the employ of the Auckland Transport Board, Mr Carr is a member of the Auckland City Council and lias been president of the Auckland Tramways Union for 10 years. He was born at Papakura, in 1884. , After a conference between the Leader of the Opposition (Hon. A. Hamilton) and the local officers of the National Party, including representatives of the organisation in Auckland West, it was stated that no decision had been reached on the question whether the party would contest the by-election. An announcement is to he made later.
