(From Our Own Correspondent.) OPIKI, April 24. An unfortunate accident bcfcl Ailecn Glaridge when she caught her arm in an electric washing machine. Her arm was badly bruised, but no bones were broken. Mr and Mrs L. T. Wobb visited I.cvin on Saturday to attend the Neilsen-Toal wedding. Afterwards they travelled to Kiritaki (Danncvirke) where they are staying with Mr and Mrs Webb, senr. Miss M. Wilson is spending a short holiday in Wellington. Mr and Mrs J. A. Cookslcy spent the week-end in Wellington and (be Jlutt. Mr and Mrs J. Mabcy motored through to Wellington to join their daughter. Private G. Gregory paid a surprise visit to llis home in Opiki this week-end. Late on Saturday afternoon a car driven by Mr N. Neilsen, with one passenger, was proceeding along Poplar Road whenit met a car from Lower Huff in a headon collision on Mr Horn’s corner. The passengers, Messrs J. Alexander and D. Teal, suffered severe cuts and bruises, but were able to proceed home. Both drivers were unhurt. This is the second accident on this corner, and it is particularly dangerous. At the Opiki Sports Club euchre and dance extras were played bv Mrs Cowon. The euchre prizes were won by Miss R. Tupinc and Mr G. Tawliiti. Messrs P. Soutliee and M. Tantrum were M.C.'s. At the monthly meeting of the Opiki Women's Institute Mrs Irwin presided. The motto was, “At the going down of the sun and in the morning, wo will remember them.” Two delegates, Mesdames Norman and S. Glaridge, were appointed to attend the Manawatu Council meeting. Arrangements for the. birtnday party were put in the hands of the committee. A “bring and buy” stall will bo held at tho May meeting. Mrs Glaridge gave a demonstration on smocking from the Massey College box: The competition for bottlerl fruit resulted : Syrup, Mrs Nagel 1, Mrs Krivan 2, Mrs Sanies 3 ; water, ill's Krivan 1, Mrs Percy 2, Mrs Henderson 3. Garden circle competition, best bloom, Mrs While 1, Mrs Henderson 2, Mrs Wilde 3. Miniature bowl, Mrs Percy 1 and 3, Mrs Nagel 2. The annual report of the gardening circle was road by Mrs Norman in the absence of the leader (Mrs Wilde). The retiring committee arranged the competitions, plant exchange, and the spring bulb and dahlia shows which wore attended with considerable success. The new committee was elected as follow: Leader, Mrs Wilde; secretary, Mrs Aitchison : Mesdames S. Cfaridge, Cooksley, Jackson, Larsen, Mabey, Norman, Percy, and Sanies. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Aitchison, S- Glaridge, Cooksley, Henderson, and Krivan.
