CANARY AND CAGE BIRD NOTES.

Show time is approaching and it is time to begin training birds. 11l another two months the show season will be in lull swing. It is a great pity to see birds passed by an impatient judge, yet it often happens. Who will blame the judge altogether? More often it is the owner who causes the judge to pass on to the next cage. Training for cage deportment is very essential if birds are to secure a ticket in the aM’ard list. Trouble with young canaries not making good is sometimes due to the inexperience of oM-ners. Where everything is done to keep tile birds comfortable and free from pests there should be little trouble, except that faulty nutrition can cause slow development. Beginners should seek expert advice if they have any pronounced trouble in this direction. A well-known exhibitor says: “Always have a good look each day at your birds. Should any seem mopey take them out and try to ascertain tlio trouble: if constipated, give olive oil; if there are signs of stomach trouble."put on watej and plain canaryseed. Do not cage up youngsters too early; do not force them with soft food; if a tonic is thought necessary seed dealers have many mixed seeds verv suitable.” A good bird can he spoiled by too much showing. One heating does not prove a bird worthless. A good bird proves its, worth sooner or later.
