TE ARAKURA.

At the biennial meeting of householders Mr P. Hansen was elected to the chair. Air D. T. Johnston (secretary and treasurer) presented the financial statement showing a credit in the general account of £l3 4s 6d. This had been considerably reduced since the last householders’ meeting. The special account showed a credit balance of £ll 8s 2d and out of this amount £5 12s 7d had been donated by the Parents’ Association for boobs for the library and .was awaiting the EducatiQp Board’s subsidy. Mr J. J. Hume, chairman of the School Committee, presented the annual report. A great deal had been done at the school. Mr E. S. Baker (headmaster) submitted a report on the year’s work in the school as follows: “The school roll nowstands at 61, 28 boys and 33 girls. Of these, 29 are Maoris (13 boys and 16 girls). Wider knowledge and understanding of their work have resulted since the proficiency examinations were abolished. All this has meant great changes in the school work and methods of teaching. The list, of books to be purchased by money allotted by the Parents’ Association, is now in tile bands of the inspector for, approval, to get the subsidy of the board. Every effort has been made to encourage games, though only a few visits have been made to other schools; for matches.” The Agricultural Club report showed that the Calf Club had been well supported while the root crops had fallen A vote of thanks to the headmaster (Air E.
