(From Oar Own Correspondent.; SANSON, April 24. Mr F. S. Collis presided over the biennial meeting of householders at Sundoll. There were also present: Mrs E. V. Bishop, Messrs A. 11. Stovers, L. W. Sfaite, E Wilcoek, G. W. Richardson. I). (*. Sanson, J S. ltcrve, R. B. Got* don, E. V. Bisnop, S. L. Orr and the headmaster (Mr J. W. Beattie). Mr D C. Saileon congratulated the oonunittec on finishing up with .such a substantial credit balance. He was not allogether in agreement with the committee arranging for the children to undertake the cleaning at the school and woa also not in favour of the other children not recoil iny prizes. '1 he chairman said that the children had taken a vote on t.he matter anil had unanimously decided in favour of using the money to create a library. Mr Collier also slated that he was not aware of any complaints from the children regarding the cleaning of the school. Mr Bishop complimented the head teachei or. his interest in training the children in woodwork and wished to know whether the committee could assist to further this work. lie also desired to know, was if a fact that, the children had to supply their own ink. The head leather said that the children were buying their own ink. If the committee bought it they would be faced with a fair expense in view of the present-day prices, whereas it was only a small matter as far as the children were concerned. After the report and balance sheet, were adopted. Mr Collier .vacated the chair and Mr D. Sanson was elected. Nominations were called for the new committee which resulted in Messrs Collier. Bishop, W'lcock, Reeve, Staff,c, and Sievers being nominated. On a ballot being taken, Messrs Collier. Reeve, Stnite. Sievers and Wilcock were elected. At a meeting of the committee Mr Collier was re-elected chairman and Mr Sievers secretary. A discussion ensued regarding additional facilities. The report presenled by the chairman was as follows: —“The progress of the school lias been well maintained, and it has again been awarded an environment certificate. The rot’ stands at 73. There have been no alteiations in the staff and Miss Ralfe anil Mr Beattie have capably carried out their duties. The buildings are in good condition and various improvements have been made in the grounds. We have been able to economise in cleaning charges, the work now being done by the bigger children under Mr Beattie’s supervision. The grounds and garden are in very good order and the teachers and children arc to lx: congratulated on the upkeep. '1 ho commit, <oo purchased a motor rnower. During 193 S we were able to take advantage of tbc Government’s scheme No. 13 and two men were employed cutting down trees. From ilio sale of posts and droppers £l2O lias been made, beside numerous cords of firewood for the school,, without the cost of a penny to tbc committee. Twenty-six children have been treated at ihe dental clinic at Palmerston North during the iast two years. Through the wish of the children in the upper standards the custom of presenting individual /prizes was discontinued in favour of. increasing the library. To this the committee made a grant of £3 15s. which was subsidised by , £1 5s from the Education Board. Prizes were.also given to the infant classes. At least 45 hooks were added to the library. Arbor Day was celebrated this year in conjunction with the Old Boys’ Association. Nuinqrous trees were planted, which were given by various old boys. The finances are very sound and (he period lias been completed with a credit balance _ of £ll4 4s 7d. 'The football team combined with Ohake-i and had two quite successful seasons. The girls’ basketball team also acquilled themselves well. Our thanks are recorded to those parents, who provided transport. The 1939 sports were held on the Sanson Recreation Ground, the school winning two rose howds and the marching competition. They also attended the BullsOhakea Club’s sports and were winners of the Mansell Shield. They also beat the Bulls school at tpnnis Religious instruction has been carried on by Rev. C. M. Roberts. Wo much appreciate his work. In Juno. 1933, the school was honoured with a visit from the laic Prime Minister and Hon. P. G. Webb. We record thanks to the teachers, children, parents, caretaker, and friends.”
