PRESENTATION.
MR F. STEWART HONOURED. On the occasion of his retirement from the Department of Agriculture, Mr F. Stewart, who has served as abattoir manager and meat and dairy inspector for nearly 37 years, was met by his fellow officers and presented with an inscribed clock as a memento of his long connection with the department. Mr C. S. Elphiek, M.R.C.V.S.. supervising veterinarian, made the presentation and, on behalf of himself and his fellow officers, wished Mr Stewart every happiness m his retirement. Mr G. H. Jarrett, supervising meat inspector, l 1 ending, also conveyed his good wishes, and apologised for several officers who were unable to be present. In returning thanks, Mr Stewart mentioned the great progress that the department had made in -10 years, and expressed pleasure at the passing of the new Meat Act, which meant the better handling of meat to the public. Mr Stewart first saw service in the Dunedin abattoir, the first municipal abattoir to be built in New Zealand, and afterward was stationed at Gore, Feilding, and Dannevirke, being promoted supervising meat inspector at the local abattoir two years ago. The abattoir staff also presented Mr Stewart with a travelling bag with envelope enclosed for Mrs Stewart, Mr A. M. Spilman, manager, in a happy speech, conveying tiie best wishes ol himself and staff for a happy retirement.
