OHAKEA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) OHAICKA, April 18. At the final meeting of the present school committee, Mr K. Vile presided/ There were also present Messrs 11. Ellery, J. Capstick, L. ICobcrstein, R. Bartlett and the headmaster. The head teacher’s report was received. It stated that the roll number was slowly increasing and recommended various matters that required attention. Satisfaction was expressed at the manner in which the school picnic had been conducted. It was decided to award the cup presented by Miss Capstick to become the property of the winner as desired by the donor. The report and balance sheet to be presented to the householders’ meeting were approved. The chairman expressed thanks for the way members had attended to school business and hoped they would stand for re-election. Members also thanked the chairman for his work. A dance and card evening organised by the R.S.A. was well attended. The winners at cards were Mrs P. R. Teague and Mr W. Robinson. A Monte Carlo was won by Miss M. Treniain and Mr H. Forster and a spot waltz by Miss J. Murray and Mr J. Imrie. At the annual meeting of the Ohakea Miniature Rifle Club Mr 11. Ellery presided. The report stated that the club had enjoyed a satisfactory season. A special appeal was made to young shots to continue their interest in the sport and encourage a further increase in the membership. Congratulations were offered to the winners of last season’s trophies. The balance-sheet was presented and adopted and showed a small credit balance after meeting considerable non-recurring expenditure. A discussion took place on the prospects of carrying on activities this vear, in view of the uncertainty of ammunition supplies, and a sm.ill sub-c-ommit-tee. consisting of Messrs W. Robinson. 11. Ellery ,K. Vile and N. Lcet. was appointed to explore possibilities and purchase any supplies available. It was decided. to commence practice shoots in a fortnight, when the ammunition problem will be clarified. The election of officers resulted : Patron, Mr A. V. Matthews; president, Mr IC. Vile; deputy-president. Mr D. McE'onell; vice-presidents, Messrs A. Vile, R. Scott and J. Simpson; secretary and treasurer, Mr I. N. Lcet; committee, Messrs J. Ellery, 11. Ellery. W. IClatt, P. Ellery and S. Freeklington: club captain, Mr W. Robinson : handicapncrs and markers. Messrs J. Ellery and Desmond Ellery; delegates, Messrs K. Vile and N. Leet: ladder stewards, Messrs P. Ellery and W. IClatt; coaches,- Messrs W. Robinson ana N. Leet: scorers,. Messrs W. Robinson and IV. IClatt: social committee. Messrs Desmond Ellerv, D. McDonell. R. Hartley, S. Freeklington and J. IClatt. Four new members were elected. Messrs, 11. Mansell and IC. Vile intimated that' tlia buttons won by them, last season would be presented for competition this season. Mr 11. Ellerv offered to present- the third button, and votes of thanks wore passed to those donors. Votes qf thanks were passed to the retiring president and to the secretary. Mr P. 11. Barnard has been spending a few days with his parents. Mr and Mrs 11. 11. Barnard, Diamond Harbour. Lyttelton. Miss lona Ellery is. also spending a few days at Lyttelton ns the guest of Mr and Mrs Barnard. Mr and Mrs H. Thomas, of Napier, have been spending a few days as the guests of Mr and Mrs H. EII- , cry. Miss E. Ward, of Palmerston North, I has also been the guest of Mr and Mrs ' 11. Ellerv. Mr Dennis Ellery is visiting the Nelson district. Miss Nora Ellery sn-rd a few days as the guest of her sister, Mrs R. ICeat, of Ilimterville. Recent visitors to the Exhibition from this district include Mr and M>? L. Simpson. Mr and j Mrs 11. Redpatli, Mr Desmond Ellery, Mr and Mrs J. Wiglitman, Mr and Mrs G. Richardson. Rev. A. N. Sootier and Mrs Scotter. of Thames, have been the guests of Mr aud ! Mrs 11. Masters. Miss L. McNeil, of Wellington, was also a recent guest of !Mr and Mrs 11. Masters. Miss E. Ellerv has returned from a short stay in Palmerston North as. the guest of Mr and Mrs T. Ellery. Mrs G Ellery is spending a short holiday with her sister, Mrs C. McCarthy. of Foxtori. Miss M. Ralfe, of ' Bulls, has taken up her duties as relieving i assistant at the local sclnwi.
