CUBA STREET CHURCH
REV. H. L. FIEBIG INDUCTED. In spite of the wet weather, last evening, there was a large congregation at the Cuba Street Methocnst Church to witness the induction of Rev. H. L. I< iebig, "8.A., formerly or Christchurch, to the superintendency cf the circuit. The impressive service was conducted by the chairman of the Hawke’s Jjay-Manawatu District, Rev. C. H. Olds, of Hastings, with whom were associated Rev. Clarence Eaton (St. Paul’s Church) and Rev. W. T. Blight (Eedding). Mr Eiebig presented lor induction by Messrs G. H. Gill Lug and A. E. Fisher (circuit stewards), the pastor and people renewing their mutual vows. In the course of a brief address to the incoming minister, Mr Olds referred to the fine qualifications ol Air I'ieo.g. He might be regarded as one who was seasoned in the work. A minister was, in tact, a man set apart, but j lie was not spared the actuality of temptations or the need to retain his ; poise. He was required to guard 1 against over-empbasis of organisation and set himseh to present Christ to the people as the result of a life intimate with God. Addressing his remarks to the congregation, Mr Eaton urged the cultivation of an exalted view of the ministry. The cure of souls was., a call to a separated work the importance ol which must not be cheapened. The ministry of the Word was central and all-important, and worthy of constant support by praver. A realisation of being placed in ail improvable —not a completed—universe was essential, leading to the engendering of a co-op-erative spirit. Oiie-niaii ministries were impossible. Air Liebig stated that he esteemed it a privilege to have been inducted into the work of the circuit, lie had appreciated the manner in which the service had been conducted, the large congregation, and the ministers who had assisted. Very patiently and prayerfully minister and congregation would endeavour in the days ahead to place their aspirations into practice, lie added. After the concluding hymn, Air Eiebig pronounced the Benediction. At the social gather.ng, held -in the schoolroom, Mr Billing introduced A 1 r Olds, who briefly welcomed Air and Airs Eiebig to the district. The area was to be congratulated on the arrival of such a good minister; he spid. Air Eaton said Air Eiebig was to be congratulated on coming to Rainier ton North and the Cuba Street circuit,,- wlmre he would find a loyal people. He was bringing fresh gifts, which would be appreciated to the full. Apologising for the absence of Ah' T. R. Hodder. who was indisposed. Air Gilling warmly welcomed Mr and Airs Eiebig to the circirt. All would look expectantly to Air FWvg’s pulpit woH< and be greatlv enriched. Ah Eiebig. in replv. sahl be hoped the anticipation would not- be greater than the realisation. He had been grateful for the warmth of the welcome and with Airs Eiebig already felt at home in the new circuit. 1 lie arrangements tor their arrival were appreciated. As an enjoyable interlude Airs G. H. Gilling presented a vocal solo, Air L. Drake being her accompanist. The singing of the Doxclcgy con eluded the function.
