POINTS FOII DURATION OF WAR. At a meeting of the Southern Hawke’s Bay provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union at Dannovirke yesterday, the following notice of motion from the Auckland provincial executive lor consideration at the forthcoming animal conference was forwarded by the Dominion secretary:—“That for the duration of the war the aims, objects, and platform of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union shall be suspended and substituted by the following: (1) More and better production of the primary produce so vitally necessary to the people and fighting forces of the Empire. (2) This involves the application of the economic principle of the recovery in full of the producers’ costs of production. (3) The installation of an independent .tribunal in which the industry has confidence to assess the costs of production of any particular commodity. (4) -’To secure public recognition of the necessity for the proper direction of our manpower after tlie fighting services are supplied toward the ends set out above. (5) The fostering of two-way trade with Great Britain by the casing of the import restrictions against Great Britain as much as possible, So that by their exports the people of Great Britain shall ho able to purchase the maximum of our production. (6) That all internal war expenditure be met by (a) taxation; (b) borrowing the genuine savings of the people, the Reserve Bank being directed to place such sums as are required to the credit of the Government account, and that' such sums shall not hear interest or ho repayable. The object of the above is to preserve the stability of our purchasing power.” The president (Mr J. C. Bolton) said he considered tfie matter could be verywell left to the annual conference of the Farmers’ Union in vSouthern Ifiwke’s Bay. It seemed that clause two referred to the guaranteed price. He moved that the communication he referred to the annual meetings, and this was carried.
