RAID IN WEST.
GERMANS REPULSED. HEAVY CASUALTIES. Received April 18, 10.15 a.m. PARIS, April 17. Crumbling before machine-gun fire, two German companies left many dead and wounded in attempting a raid on British outposts. The raid was followed by an intensive barrage from heavy artillery. A Berlin communique claims that shock troops raided and blow up foui Allied dug-outs, cut up a British garrison of fif+y T men, and brought back prisoners, arms, and ammunition. The French official evening communique states that towards the end of last night there was activity of contact units in the region west of the Vosges.
