HARBOUR BOARD REPORT.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —The report of the Wellington Harbour Board for the year ended September 30, 1939, published in your paper, provided- interesting reading. As a ratepayer and elector 1 am ratbei anxious to know whether the members of the board receive any remuneration or allowances for their services. Does the chairman (the members seem to take tlie chairmanship in rotation) receive an honorarium in addition to travelling expenses and allowances, or are h:s services purely honorary ?—1 am, CURIOUS.

This letter was referred to Mr M. A. Eliott, of Palmerston North, chairman of the Wellington Harbour Board, who said that members of the board did not receive any remuneration or allowance for their services beyond actual travelling expenses. 'The chairman received an honorarium of £2OO a year in addition to actual travelling expenses.
