DIVIDING THE WORLD
According to the Nazi plan Europe would be conquered by 1948. That much was revealed from the secret map discovered by the Czech police when they raided Herr Henlein’s headquarters in Prague before the Sudeten issue was completed by the cession to Germany of the territory Hitler demanded. The Ministry of Information has made effective use of the map by incorporating it in a poster. The time-table set by the Nazis has not exactly proceeded to schedule, but it is none the less significant. Britain is set to be conquered by 194 S when it would become German territory, and this little plan recalls the recent article which appeared in a German newspaper, Die Wochc, entitled “The World when England has been Conquered.” The writer of this illusion pictured Germany fighting for European freedom, a fact which Czechs, Poles, Norwegians, Danes, and Jews must receive with amazement. Once the British yoke was removed Gibraltar would be handed over to Spain. (Germany as well as other nations including the Spaniards has long hoped for such a consummation), Malta would become Italian property, and Cyprus-be given to Greece. And the Nazis, in surprisingly altruistic manner, apparently desire nothing for themselves, though the writer was bold enough to say that the African colonies would open to “all the progressive nations of Europe.” The Nazi technique is seen at its best in this article, which even went so far as to promise the union of Northern and Southern Ireland. “Wliat a place for plunder!” Blacker is reported to have said as lie siirveved London from St. Paul’s. The Nazis see a greater picture in the vast British Empire awaiting the day if they conquer Britain. But that is the weak point in the article and in the map which Herr Henlein np doubt, earnestly gazed upon, anticipating its consummation. Barring its completion are two powerful States determined that aggression shall be. no more and prepared with all their might and main to defeat Hitlerism.
