OLD SCALE REMAINS.

SCHOOL COMMITTEE GUAM’S. Notification that revision of the scale of grants to school committees was not contemplated was received front the Education Department by the Wanganui Education .Board yesterday. The board was asked to continue payments on the existing basis in the meantime. The secretary (Mr G. N. Boulton) reported that in March, 11)39, the Education Boards’ Association notified that the department had invited suggestions regarding the scale of payments to committees as the regulations covering the old scale had been repealed. The board submitted a proposal and it was anticipated that a new scale would be introduced on April 1, 1940. The department, however, denied ail knowledge of any proposal to revise the scale. It was necessary lor the finances of most large committees that the supplementary grant should be distributed as early as possible, added Mr Boulton, and he recommended that this bo done at the e,nd of April on tlie saint basis as for 1939, 'namely, £ll per teacher in schools of Grade iv'B/CJ and upwards, £G per teacher in schools of Grade IJ.IB/A and IVA/Ji, and £5 per school for sole teacher schools of Grades II and 111. He recommended the continuance of the following additional grants: ltangiwahia, £15.; Apiti, £ls; (Manchester vStreet (Feilding), £2; and Hokowhitu, £2. The secretary’s report was adopted.
