NORWEGIANS RALLY.
HELP TO NORWAY. GREAT PROPORTIONS. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (British Olficial Wireless.) RUGBY, April 15. The following message to the Norwegians was issued by the Norwegian Government on Monday evening: - “The help lor Norway which *he Norwegian Government has ashed the British and French Governments to provide is being given, and is assuming great proportions, Jhe hrst signs of it are the recapture or Narvik and the country around it. “A number of Norwegian pilots have already taken up their duties with the “The Norwegian officers attached to the expeditionary force arrived m England on Monday and have established contact with the military authorities. “Until further .orders Norwegian subjects are instructed to accept as. legal currency in payment of goods and services given English and I' renc-li coins and notes, as the Allied troops have not had time to obtain sufficient Norwegian money. The official rate of exchange will be announced after an agreement has hen reached between the Norwegian State Bank and the Bank of England. The Noiwednn Government has arranged with the" British Government that, until further orders, Norwegian prices lotgoods and billeting fees which obtain in England shall he. recognised. “The details will be announced later from the 8.8. C. and a broadcasting station of the Norwegian Government as soon as it is set up. - . Norwegian military and civil authorities are ordered to enter into the closest contact with our British and French Allies, and to give them all the assistance they can. Every Norwegian subject lias the duty to support the authorities in every wa- and communicate to them all information about the activities and movements ot the enemy, and about treason and es pionage in Norway. . . , - • “In the hard times which lie before us the Norwegian people must establish its rights to a victorious national life and national independence. INVADERS FALL BACK. LONDON, April 15. The fighting continues near Elveruin. where German ’planes machinegunned an assembly of unarmed Norwegian soldiers. Many Norwegian soldiers are rallying in the upper regions of OsttoKl. and fear of their presence has caused the German evacuation of lvornsjoe, a frontier station. They fell back to Halden. Snow and heavv clouds are hindering land and air activity in this region. , . Refugees from Halden report that only 400 Germans arc occupying the fortress of Frederikstad. The Norwegian radio declares that the Germans landed troops by parachute near the Doinass railway junction on the Oslo-Trondheim railway. The. 8.8. C. Norwegian service tonight included a statement that Narvik and the surrounding country are in the hands of the British troops A Rome message says that the British have landed at seven points in Norway, namely Narvik, Hodo (presumably Bodo), Sorfo Id, in Folden Fiord, Bals Fiord and at two points in Ull's Fiord and Tromso.
Tromfro is about 100 niilcv; north of Narvik and Bodo is situated on u cape near the entrance to Vest Diord, at the head of which is Narvik. The other landing placet* mentioned in the Home message are in the vicinity of Narvik and Tromso. Jhe latter town stands on an island nearly five miles long and mile© broad. .1 he population of the island iri 82,000 and of the town, 7000.
