Mrs IT. X. AleKwen presided over a meeting of the Women's Institute. Some of Iho remits for the forthcoming conference were discussed. Mrs H. X..Mel'.wen was elected delegate to attend the conference in Wellington. Final arrangements wore made for the birthday fiance. lhe hostesses will be Miss Voss, Mrs 1). Howland, Mm F. Me 10wen and Miss K. MclOwcn. The competition for felt work was won by Miss 10. MclOwcn .1, Mrs M. Richardson 2; bloom, Mrs M. MeKwen 1, Mrs D. Howland 2, Mrs N. P. Nielsen 3; vegetable. Miss M. Howland 1, Miss IHcamey 2, Mrs 1). Howland 3. The hostesses wore Mrs and Miss K. Jfearsey. At the residence of Mr and Airs IX Howland on Saturday they again entertained a party from lhe Maori Battalion. The time was spent in games, singing and dancing, Sergeant Uansav again ably assisting at the piano. Misses A. and K. Walker arc spending a holiday with friends in the South Island. Mr and Mrs King and family arc leaving for Canada this week. Mrs W. Davies has returned from Ohau, where she has been spending a few days with relatives. Mrs H N. MeKwen has been staying with her sister Mrs C. Aitchison, of Palmerston North. AJr and Airs N. P. Nielsen are visiting Wellington. Aliss Afathcson, accompanied by Airs Carmichael, of Kakaramea, is spending a few days at Napier. The friends of Mr W. Weddell, junr.. will be pleased to know that his condition is much improved and he will soon bo out ot hospital.
