SHANNON.
(From Our Own Correspondent) SHANNON, April 16. The Parish ITall was again crowded when the Women’s Institute celebrated its 12lh birthday with a party. Mrs J. A. Easton welcomed the visitors. Dancing and games were entered into with zest under the direction of Mr J. T. Bovis, and enjoyable items wero given by Mcsdames Aislabio, Alierby, J. Jamieson and Miss J. Bovis The ceremony surrounding the cutting ot the beautiful cake, which was made and decorated by 'Mrs Alierby, was interesting. Visiting members from Lincoln (Christchurch) and representatives from Linton, Tokomaru and Opiki lit the candles and Mrs T. Cook, president of the W.8.F.U., blew them out. Mr Carl Stern, on behalf of the husbands, cut the cake. Mrs 3i,aston was the recipient of a beautiful posy from the Opiki Institute, presented by Mrs Norman (president), as also was Miss Burling (Shannon secretary). Miss Barber (Shannon treasurer) and Mrs Atkinson (Tokomaru) pianisto were also given floral tributes. Mrs Atkinson, who always gives her music so generously, was asked to accept a small presentation from the Shannon Institute. Points prizes for competitions during the year were' presented to Mesdames Tremewan and Lucinsky, The Tennis Club closed the season on Saturday when there was a good attendance. Opportunity was taken to make a presentation to Miss Angela Moynihan in view of her approaching marriage. The president (Mr F. Thurston) said that Miss Moynihan had been a most capable secretary to the club for a number of years, and the members appreciated her work. Congratulations are extended to the bowling Club in winning the Triangular Shield this season. Two rinks visited Foxton last Saturday and collected the shield.
