PERSONAL. PAIIIATUA, April 15. Mrs .T. Sandman, cf Albert Street, lias had as her guest Mrs A. Joyce, of Manaia, Taranaki. Mr J. 11. Woods, of Makuri, lias enlisted for overseas service. NOTES. At a meeting of the Pahiatua Plu.nkct Society, Mrs Paterson presided. Nurse Tinkliam's report for March was as follows:—New babies 4, visits to homes 38; visits to rooms, adults 138,_ babies 125, older children 8; letters written, 2. Congratulations were extended to the commit* tee responsible for the decorating of the float which took part in the Centennial procession. LADIES’ GOLF. The first ladies’ medal round of the season, played at the Pahiatua Golf Club on Saturday, was won by Mrs G. G. Nelson. There were . a largo number of lauies present a.t a bridge afternoon held at the residence -of Mrs E. 11. Watson and arranged by members of the Womon’s Institute. The sum of £3 15s was realised for comforts for the soldiers. SCHOOL PICNIC. The annual picnic lor the pupils, of the Makomako school was held on Friday at the school grounds in inclement, weather. At the conclusion of the athletic events. Mr l l ’. Ebbettj chairman of the School Committee, presented each pupil with a book. A special prize, presented by Mr Carthew for the most popular pupil, decided by vote of the children, was awarded to Kathleen Eising. Packets of sweets and apples were later distributed to the children. LAWN TENNIS. The president of the Mangamutu 'lcnnis Club (Mr J. G. Brechin) performed the official closing ceremony of the club at the week-end. Mr Brechin referred to the action oE Mrs A. Morgan and Mr M. L. Hamilton in presenting cups to bo competed for by senior men and women singles players. Mr Hamilton is shortly joining the Army and has donated the cup as a token by which his follow-members may remember him. Mrs Morgan’s cup is for yearly competition among senior men, Mr Hamilton’s among senior women. The following are the club championshin results:— W r omcn’s senior singles: Miss K. O'Brien beat Mrs A. Morgan. 6 —4, 2—6, 6 —5. Men’s senior singles: I). O'Brien beat. J. Ammundsen, 6 —3, 6 —2. Men’s. junior singles: Q. Iloklaway beat G. Tail, 9—2. Women’s junior singles: Miss I. Braggins beat Miss A. Humphries, 9—5. Finalists’ cups (donated by Mr Ktz) : ,f. Amnuimlsen and Miss Tv. O’Brien boat, D. O’Brien and Mrs Morgan, 9—5. Mixed doubles: C. Davies and Mrs McCnrdle beat \V. Anscombc and Miss I. Ilenyns, 9 —5. Women’s doubles: Miss Tv. Dick and. Mrs Wilkinson beat Miss N. Elz and Miss T. Iloayns. Play in tbo men's championship doubles lias not yet been completed. BOWLING. At the official closing of flic Pahiatua Bowling Club’s season at the week-end, Mr Britland, after briefly addressing those present. called on Dr Paterson to present the trophies won during tbo year, to the following:—Senior singles (Mr J. do P. Manson’s trophy). V. G. Bovens; intermediate single* (Mr C. 11. Arrow’s trophy), W. Bowden; junior singles (Mrs E. Lott's trophy), W. J. Fca-ey; senior pairs, V. G. Bovens (club’s trophy) and TL Gregory (Mr G. 11. Ilodd’s trophy). The final of Games were played between the Dannovirkc and Pahiatua players. On Sunday, the senior-junior lias yet to be played, bowlers from Dannevirke and Eketahuiia took part in an open progressive tournament on the Pahiatua green. This was won by Bowden. Feasov, L\ A. Bisset and A. W. Bisset, with Smith, Hutton, Stvanncy and Pilkiiiton second. PERSONAL. Mrs E. Bain, of Pahiatua, is fit present in London with Miss N. W. Bain, who is driving an ambulance, states an overseas paper.
