WORK AT AWAPUNI.

track soft after rain. OLD BILL AND CATALOGUE. (By “Spectator,”) The course proper was open for work at Awapuni this morning, the flags being only a short _ distance out. The track was rather soft, light drizzle falling after heavy overnight rain. Courting was one of the first horses out and was galloped over four furlongs alone. Caution followed and was eager to gallop, being allowed to go over six furlongs in 1.13. Old Bill was given a gallop over three furlongs and did the distance in 39sec. Selkirk and Gay Jeanne were companions over a similar distance and also took 39scc. Colonel Bogey did three furlongs in 40 3-5 sec, and Slick the Miller was not hurried in take 41sco. Hunting Lore started fast- in a run over a mile, and completed the distance in 1.51. Aurora’s Star was also sent over a mile, which was completed in 1.56. Peach King, looking well, was given easy work on the inside grass and then taken round on the course proper. l’acc-work was given Little Dorrit, Amyas Leigh, Sceptre and Old Surrey. Gold Chase went over three furlongs, the time being 41see. Clarion Call was galloped on the course proper, his time for three furlongs being 41 2-S.'CC. Bryce Street, was sent over six flights of hurdles, jumping well. Pitmark and a Peach Brandy gelding were 'sent together over half a mile, completing the distance in 54scc. Among others exercised were Thrasos, Boniden and High Peer, who were out early. Catalogue was jogged round on the inside and Brazil was also taken round there. W. J. Broughton will ride at the Marlborough Racing Club’s meeting at Blenheim next Saturday and Monday.
