RELIEF FOR POLAND.
AMERICAN REQUEST GRANTED. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, April 12. The American Red Cross was recently permitted to send 250,000 dollars worth of clothing and medical supplies to relieve distress in Poland without i interference by the Contraband Control. I In response to an urgent plea of an official of" the American Red Cross who has returned to'London from Poland it has been agreed with some reluctance to permit a further consignment to the same amount. The reluctance is due to the fact that the authorities here have no, confidence that the supplies will reach the quarters intended, hut. in view of the deplorable condition of Poland described bv the Red Cross official, the request has been granted. AID FOR GREENLAND. WASHINGTON, April 12. ' President Roosevelt told a Press conference that Greenland is more closely related to North America than to Europe. He proposed that the American Red Cross organise summer relief for Greenland if Danish supplv shins are not available. He added that the question of whether the Monroe Doctrine applies to Greenland was premature. He was considering Greenland s problems from the humanitarian point of view rather than politically.
