SHIPS AND ’PLANES.
CONTROL OF MOVEMENTS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 12. Power to the Comptroller of Customs, if he thinks it necessary in the interests of defence of New Zea.laiul, to direct that any ship or aircraft shall not leave port or its base until permitted to do so is contained in the Ships and Aircraft Detention Emergency Regulations, 1940, which were gazetted to-night. The regulations provide that the Comptroller of Customs may give directions with respect t-o any particular ship or aircraft at a port or place in New Zealand that that ship or aircraft shall not leave the port- or place until permitted to do so by such authority or person as may be specified in the directions. If any ship or aircraft leaves or attempts to leave am - port or place in contravention of a’\v such directions the master of the -hip or pilot of the aircraft shall be guilty of an offence against these regulations. Any person acting oil behalf of His Majesty may take such steps and use such force as may appear reasonably necessary to secure compliance with any directions given under these regulations with respect to a ship or aircraft, or where an offence against those regulations has occurred in the case of a ship or aircraft to enable proceedings in respect of the offence to be effectually taken.
