(From Our Own Correspondent.) CARNARVON, April 11. At the Women’s Institute meeting Miss Clare presided in the absence of Mrs Gibbons. Members stood in si'cnce as u mark of respect, to the late Prime Minister. Cor- ! rcspondence was read from the Oil Fuel j Controller, regretting his inability to , grant a request for petrol to be used for institute purposes. It was decided to lorin an emergency fund, tho proceeds from llio. trading stall to bo used, and to limit the entries to one for each in the competitions, oilier than the best bloom. Wool is to be procured to make articles for soldiers, flic members to bring knitting to the meetings. Two parcels were packed and sent to headquarters for soldier comforts during t.he month, Mrs Will gave a demonstration on making mops from used knitted wool, the membcis supplying their own mop-heads. Mrs N, Scott kindly offered the wool and Mrs Will offered to make a. mop, which is to he sold to help the emergency funds. Mesdames Fieldhouse and Warren judged the competitions, which resulted: Bloom, Miss Clare 1, jVHs Wrighlson 2, Mrs Thompson 3; two carrots, Mrs Knight 1, Mrs Short 2, Miss Woolford 3. The programme for next month is: Best bloom, also bunch of chrysanthemums, and a health talk hy Mrs (1. R. McKenzie; hostesses, Mesdames Will, Sandercock and Miss A. Teague. Mrs Knight, and Miss Gonnills served afternoon tea. The Clydesdale School children gave a very good concert on Wednesday night in aid of the ground improvement funds. Mr Mansell, chairman of the school committee. in thanking the children, said that by their efforts and the generosity of the people of the district, with the subsidy from the Education Board, it would be possible to complete their object and hoped there would be no further calls for a long time. A ealtc donated by Mrs Powell (made and iced by Mrs Vine) was won by Air Knox The following children contributed to the programme, with Miss Flavell at the piano: Langley Gonnills, primers, Gavin Hayes, lan Scott, Marion Scott, Russell Giles, Zeta Short, Betty Giles, L. Gonnills and Bill Powell, Ailsa McKenzie, Ngairo Short, Zeta Short and A. McKenzie, Pixie Luxford, Jean McKclvio, N. and Z. Short, Beverley Schultzc, Maida Luxford, Marion Scott and Jean Mclvelvie, Bon Knox, Mona Teague, Maida Luxford, Jean Harris, D. Zajonskowski and M. Luxford, W. Powell and all tho pupils. The programme proved there is much talent among the young performers. The opportunity was taken to present the prizes in connection with the garden plots. Messrs Collinson and Ciinninghanie’s trophy was won by Dawn Teague, with 37 points out of 40. Miss Flavell donated prizes to the runners-up, Delcic Zajonskowski and Langley Gonnills, equal with 36 points. Mr Robbie, tile agricultural inspector, judged the plots and awarded the prizes for the best cultivation. Mr S. Ifodge is visiting Auckland.
