CANTERBURY MARKETS.

INQUIRY FOR COCKSFOOT. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH. April 12. Though not many sales arc being made, more inquiry has developed for cocksfoot in the seed and produce markets this week. The cutting oft ot the Danish supply because of the German invasion lias had the effect of stiffening holders here. Australia normally draws the hulk of her cocksfoot supplies from Denmark, but this weeks events in Europe have raised the possibility that some of tho inquiry usually directed to Denmark for seed will he diverted to New Zealand. In the meantime, prices show' little change. Good lines of Akaroa seed are changing hands at up to lOd. Red clover is being sold at Is and Is Id and white clover is unchanged. Most of the white clover crop lias now been marketed. The firming tendency noticeable recently in chaff continue. 0 . merchants’ quotations to farmers now being £5 10s to £5 15s. Onions have also advanced again on the strength of Australian inquiry, the latest quotation lo growers being £6 (sacks extra). The potato market still shows little change. While there is a possibility of ail export market developing. growers are content to adopt a “wait-and-see” policy. It is worth noting that the Sydney quotation for Tasmanian potatoes lias moved up rapidly and now stands at £2O a ton.
