MAMWATU RACING CLUB.
WINTER MEETING IN MAY. PROGRAMME ISSUED. (By “Spectator.”) The Manawatu Racing Club will hold its winter meeting on the Awapuni racecourse on May 16 and 18. The programme lias been issued for the two days, and shows varied events under attractive conditions. Jumping events will occupy a prominent place on the programme. On the first day the Rangitira Hurdles Handicap, of a mile and three-quarters, carries a stake of £250. The Ngata Hurdles Handicap, on the second day, is under hack conditions lor a stake of £l5O, the distance being a mile and three-quarters. The main jumping event is the Manawatu Steeplechase Handicap, over two miles and a half, for a slake of £550, on the second day. The Akitio Hack and Hunters’ Steeplechase, of two miles and a quarter, on the first day, carries a stake of £2OO. The main open event in the Manawatu Winter Cup, of £3OO, over a mile and a quarter. On the second day the Hokowhitu Handicap, over the same distance, has a stake of £250. The open sprints are the ltongotoa Handicap on the first day and the Mcßae Handicap on the second day, over six and seven furlongs respectively. Each race is worth £2OO. The programme is completed with three hack events of varying distances and a maiden event each day. Particular interest will be taken in the Makerua Bracelet Handicap, of £IOO. over.a mile and a furlong, on the second day, for this _ra.ee is for gentlemen riders only. The minimum weight is 10.7.
