(From Our Own Correspondent.) BUNXYTHORPK, April 11. At a meeting of the Patriotic Committee it was decided to hold a social function in aid of tho soldiers’ parcel fund to lake place towards (be end of lire month. A special feature will be a district tug-of-war contest between the young farmers. A gift offering will be conducted. Musical items will be given. At the recent euchre tournament prizes were won by Mrs McKenzie and Messrs Pickett and Booth. The Methodist Sunday school anniversary took place recently, the preacher in the morning being Rev. 0. A. Foslon and in the evening Mr A. Dixon, an old pupil of the school. The children rendered anthems suitable to the occasion and „olos were sung by Pat Jensen anti Colin Blower. There was a good attendance on both occasions. On Tuesday evening the usual tea and public meeting continued the anniversary. The public meeting was presided over by Mr Boston, who congratulated the teachers on their work and the talent displayed that evening. Mr J. 11. Bowler, on behalf of the church, thanked the teachers (Mr A. Stewart, superintendent, Miss Pascoe and Miss G'icvely) for the sacrifice of their time for the children. From a well-wisher of the Sunday school Mr Boston presented a . parcel to each of tho teachers. Items were rendered by Joyce Kirby, Shirley Gity, Ruth Williamson, Norma Stevens, I-lazel Dittmer, Pat Jcpsen, Margaret Gunn, Doreen Kirby, Graham Harris, Alison Gunn, Norecn Harris, and Lorna Kirby. Thanks are due to Miss Pascoe for training the children, who also rendered anthem. Mr A. Stewart (superintendent) read the report, which showed there were 31 children on the roll. If congratulated Doreen and Joyce Kirby, who bad gained tho highest marks in the Sunday school. Special prizes were won as follow: Air A. Stewart’s, R. Harris; Miss B. l’ascoe’s. It. It was decided to assist the Patriotic Committee to raise funds for soldiers’ parcels by putting on a tug-of-war contest. An adurcss on lucerne was given by Mr A. J. Galpin. The speaker stated that 20 tons of green material could be obtained from an acre per year from lucerne as compared with 10 or 12 tons per acre fro n ordinary pasture. He explained how the plant obtained its moisture from tho mam tap-root, and its food from the finer roots, which were near the top of the soil. A finer loam provided suitable conditions for lucerne growing. The speaker recommended Marlborough seed, sown at tho rate of 15-201 b per acre. At tho next meeting Air J. Linklater will showed moving pictures taken on his trip to the South Sea Islands.
