ANNUAL MEETING. At the annual meeting of the Feilding branch of the S.R.C. A. Airs V. Alorphy presided. f The report and balance-sheet, the j latter showing a credit balance of £79 Os 4d, were adopted after favourable comment had been made regarding the sound position revealed in the statement of finances. It was decided to persist in iilie endeavours to have a water trough for stock placed on Sandon Road. It was stated that during the year the branch had been able to prevail upon the Borough Council to place a trough in East Street, while the branch had been associated with the efforts to erect a trough at Hitchman’s Corner. It was pleasing to record that the latter was now an accomplished fact. It was reported that a donation of £2 4s 8d had been forwarded to the R.S.P.C.A., the amount represented being the collection for the Finnish AVar Horse Fund. Mrs AY. J. Alpe was thanked for soliciting funds for the branch by way of a collection box. The president gave a short address in which she stated that it was just 100 years ago since Queen Victoria conferred the title “Royal” on the so- \ discussion took place regarding the bobby calf trade, principally relating to the length of time calves were in transit before reaching freezing works for slaughter. Further representations are to be made. Votes of thanks were accorded the committee, helpers for the copper trail campaign, Mr L. Penliey, Air W. Lee (inspector)j and Air L. J. AAild, for arranging for the use of the Community' Centre for meetings. It was decided to vote £T *o the Community Centre expenses. The president was also thanked for the work she had done during the year for the branch. The election of officers resulted: Patron, Air T. Collins; president, Airs V Alorphy; vice-presidents, Alessrs T. L. Seddon, G. Coleman; secretary, 'Alies E. Wright; committee, Alesdaincs Alpe. H. Brandt, Craig. Teller, Misses AI. Petrie, Root, Sinclair, Alessrs Collins and Coleman; inspector, Air A\. Lee; auditor. Air 0. Atdis. Air Aldis was thanked for his services as auditor for the past years. The inspector, in his report, stated that during March the premises anc. paddocks inspected had been found to be satisfactory.
The annual report, records the success of the branch in the provision of drinking troughs for stock and regrets that the Alanawatu County Council has not yet seen its way clear to provide a trough on Sandon Road. The bobby calf trade, it is stated, still gives cause for concern, it being pointed out that the worst feature is the carrying of calves past the nearest slaughtering houses. Last season, the report states, calves were sent from the Feilding district to Hawke’s Bay, Patea, Wanganui and Longburn, while calves were brought to Feilding from AVanganui. The zoning system is advocated by the branch. Alention is made of the activities of the inspector ("Air AY. Lee), who had destroyed 25 bead of live-stock, and found homes for cats and dogs. He had also attended to sick animals and inspected holding paddocks and auction marts. It was stated that the work of the inspector covered a radius of three miles from the post office.
