SQUASH RACKETS.

A very large attendance at the squash rackets court lor the official I opening of the 1940-1941 season, last I night, gave every encouragement for another successful season. There were 58 members and friends present to witness the games played. Before these commenced, Mr T. Al. N. Rodgers, in tho unavoidable absence of the president Qlr O. H. Williams) briefly extended a welcome to those present and declared the season opened. There were 27 entries in the Yankee tournament, every player playing 2 games. All who won their two games, and then played off in the semi-finals and final. All games were handicap and played to fifteen points. At the conclusion of the qualifying games the following were found to have won their two games:— Men’s competition: A, M. Johns (minus 10), J. Simpson (plus 2), A. A. Stewart (plus 2), R. O. Haddon (plus 5), B. Hoare (plus 10). Ladies’ competition: Miss N. Muir (Ser), Mrs P. Cowlishaw (plus 12). Concluding results: Johns beat Hoare, Simpson beat Stewart, Haddon beat Johns. Final : Simpson beat Haddon, 15—12. Ladies’ final: .Miss Muir beat Mrs Cowlishaw, 15—14, '
