R.A.F.’S CONTRIBUTION. THE EARLIER MESSAGES. LONDON, April 10. Off south Norway, last night, a submarine torpedoed a German cruiser, and it is thought it was sunk. It is officially announced that Royal Air Force ’planes carried out a series of attacks last evening against enemy cruisers in Bergen Fiord. The attacks ' were pressed home despite heavy antiaircraft fire, and one cruiser was hit and seriously damaged. All the ’plane™ returned. It is reported that later enemy cruis- ■ ers in Bergen were again attacked and hit three times. Meagre details by cable and radio came to hand at a late hour. An Admiralty communique reported that a British destroyer flotilla attacked the German naval forces in Vest Fiord based on Narvik. The Stockholm correspondent of the Associated Press of America says British warships are reported to have sunk a German cruiser in a battle off Svolvar, in Vest Fiord, near Narvik. A British submarine torpedoed a German cruiser in the Skagerrak and it is believed she was sunk. AIR ARM ACTIVE. To-day the aircraft arm of the Navy renewed the attack in force at dawn and registered three hits on one German cruiser. The British Associated Press Stockholm correspondent says the great naval and aerial battle waging on the west and south coast of Norway seems to be running in Britain’s favour. A German destroyer was seriously damaged and entered a Norwegian port. There is no confirmation of the sinking of the German cruiser Gneisenau and the liner Bremen. Belgian and Dutch fishermen stated that numbers of trawlers were stopped and taken to a British control station. It is believed that this indicates that Britain is sweeping the North Sea free of shipping. Reports arc circulating in Holland that a fleet ot- British ships carrying an expeditionary force is steaming north close to territorial waters. A British submarine torpedoed an enemy cruiser off the south of Norway last night and it is lielieved she sank. Bombers of the Fleet Air Arm attacked an enemy, cruiser in Bergen this morning and attained three hits. The Stockholm radio announced that the Germans have occunied the British Consulate at Trondheim and interned the staff. Twelve hundred soldiers are stationed in the city. BRUTAL INVASION. The following message was broadcast io Denmark from London: — ‘‘For the second time Denmark has been brutally invaded by Germany The British peoples received the news with deep indignation, and send the Danish people a message of warm sympathy. This event has strengthened the British resolve to pursue the war til l Europe is liberated from the menace of Prussian aggression.” i
