(Prom Our Own Correspondent.) ASHIIURST. April 10.

The Women’s Institute monthly meeting was presided over by Mrs A. Currie (president) As a mark of sympathy with the passing of the Prime Minister, members stood in silence. Sympathy was extended to Mrs Youlc, who has suffered a bereavement. Apologies, for absence were received from Mosdamcs Blows and baulk. Two new members were welcomed in Mrs Hodgson and Miss B. Young. Officers on the new coinmiltee are: President, Mrs A. Currie, vice-presidents, Mesdarnes Woodroofe and Searle; secretary, Airs Knapp, treasurers, Mrs Flowers and Miss E. Melsaac: drama, Mrs J. Cook: singing circle. Mis Hewitt. The delegates to attend Federation meetings at Foxton were Mesdnmes Currie and Woodroofe. R was decided that in future the monthly meeting is to be utilised iti working and knitting for the soldiers. Mesdarnes Currie and Searle were appointed to attend the n-ronp committee meeting at Palmerston North. Mrs MeKane, of Palmerston North, gave a travel talk on Belgium. The children of the upper standards were invited to be present and at the conclusion of the address Air Finlay (headmaster) returned thanks. The competition for the adults resulted : —Pickled onions. Mrs Currie 1, Airs W. Biewer 2. Mrs AV. Smith 3. Junior, hand mode handkerchief, Miss Alcls'iac and Miss Dobson equal 1. Miss Woodroofe 2, Miss Young 3. Flower from the garden, Mrs Muldroek 1. Airs I’. Williamson 2. Mrs AlcKanc received a vote of thanks for judging. Motto for lhe month. “Let us be like a postage stamp, and sink to it until we get there.” Hostesses for the May meeting are Alesdanies Cook, Osborne, C. Harper and B. Harper. . . . Airs AlcCracken, of Wairoa, is visiting Airs A. P. Brown, of Pobangina Road.
