GOLF NOTES

COURSE IMPROVEMENTS. PALMERSTON NORTH CLUB. (By “Bunker.”) During the summer months the Palmerston North Golf Club’s links have undergone a number of changes —additional bunkers have been made and new tees constructed. _ At the second hole the men’s tee is to be shifted back another 20 yards, which will lengthen the hole to nearly 400 yards. Two bunkers have been made at the short fourth, one at the left at the back and the other on the right at the front. At the fifth hole a bunker has been constructed on the left front and at the sixth on the right side. The right-hand bunker at the thirteenth hole has also been enlarged. New tees have been constructed tot the seventh, eighth and thirteenth holes and also a new one for the ladies at the second hole. Hole-in-One.

C. S. Gibbs, a member of the Hastings Club, caused surprise last Saturday when he holed his tee shot at the sixteenth hole. North Island Champion.

R. H. Glading (Hamilton), who won the North Island dose championship at Palmerston North during Easter, must be considered as one of the best amateurs in the Dominion to-day. His form in the early rounds of the championship was very consistent. His cards for all the rounds except the final one averaged about 74—one over par for the Hokowhitu links. However, in the final against AV. G. Horne (Hutt), he did not play with the precision which marked his earlier rounds. National Patriotic Fund.

On April 21 and 28 the Palmerston North clubs are to hold National Patriotic Fund days. The first date has been allotted to the Manawatu Club and the second to the Palmerston North Club.

Competitions Commencing. On Saturday the Manawatu Chib commences its winter competitions with the April medal round, and during the week-end the Palmerston North Club’s competitions will also, begin.

Picturesque Course. Commenting on the Palmerston North Golf Club’s course, Mr J. Forrest, the club’s new professional, stated that the links were very picturesque. The last four holes were in the prettiest settings and must be among the most picturesque of any holes in New Zealand.

Players For Camp. Two popular members of the Manawatu Goll Club, Messrs K. N. Struthers and P. H. Sinclair left for the AVeraroa Air Force Camp for their initial training, this week.
