COURAGEOUS FRIEND.

TRIBUTES TO TURKEY. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, April 9. Turkey’s friendship with Britain was stressed by diplomats and statesmen at a meeting in the Mansion House to-day in connection with the Anglo-Turkisli Belief Committee. 'The Turkish Ambassador (Dr Aras) was present. Mr R. S. Hudson (.Minister of Shipping), referring to the recent earthquake disasters, said: “One might have expected that a country like Turkey when faced with a disaster of this magnitude might for a moment have weakened in her will to stand solidly behind her promise, hut she did not.” Turkey, lie added, had freed herself from the economic shackles of German domination. Whereas Turkey used to send more than half of her exports to Germany, to-day her exports to that country had shrunk to practically negligible proportions. Turkey, said Mr Hudson, was a loyal friend and bis Government would welcome anything that could be done to make that friendship even more close than it was at present. Sir Hughe Knatehbull-Hugcssen (British Ambassador to Turkey) said, “We arc proud to have so brave and courageous a friend.”
