The diamond is. the hardest of all precious stones. Next to it in durabil- 1 ity are the ruby, the sapphire and the eastern emerald. The diamond is crystallised carbon, which differs from ! coal mainly by the arrangement of its particles. It is strange to find the 1 diamond and coal made of the same material. As relatives, they resemble the Caucasian, and the Ethiopian, who also are akin, being of the blood of, Adam.
