SERVICE AT FOOTBALL.

ST. JOHN AMBULANCE. The question of financial assistance to the St. John Ambulance Brigade in view of its services at tootball matches was discussed at- a meeting of the management committee of the Manawatu Rugby Union, last evening. Colonel J. H. Wliyte, on behalf of the brigade, waited on the meeting and appealed lor funds for the two divisions of the brigade. He also asked for a list of matches to he played so that the work of the ambulance officers could he organised. He pointed out that four new uniforms, at least, annually were needed by the two divisions. A grant was also needed for the provision of medical equipment. ft was hoped to send officers to Feilding and that the union would find transport for them. He suggested that a vote of £2-3 would be appropriate. The chairman (Mr A. AI. Ongley; stated that the grant last year was Co, and Mr P. 0. Skoglund mentioned that that sum did not cover the expenditure on splints, bandages, etc. Mr H. Hands said that he understood the brigade attended other sports, which should contribute to the support of the brigade. Colonel Whyte asked whether it was fair that the brigade should give its services Saturday after Saturday and then pay for its own uniforms. Air Ongley : Ls not the brigade supported by public subscription? Colonel Whyte replied that there was an occasional street collection, but the amount was inadequate. He intended to appeal to the Hockey Association lor a donation. Air J. Eagle expressed tho opinion that tile union’s donation should be increased. Afr B. Palmer considered uniforms were not essential. It was resolved to grant £lO 10s for the brigade’s attendances at all matches at Palmerston North and Feilding, the amount to include the cost of equipment. The Palmerston North District Free Ambulance wrote seeking a grant towards its finances and the application was deferred for future consideration.
