(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, April 9. The monthly meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was presided over by the Mayor (Mr M. E. Perreau). Fitting reference was made to the passing of Rt. The Horowhenua Rugby Union was granted the use of Easton Park for the 1940 season. Cr. 11. Podmore asked that a local resident who had been dismissed recently be reinstated on scheme No. 13.- On a vote it was decided to reinstate the man, Os. Fletcher, Middleton and Roore dissenting. A letter was read from the inspector. Live Slock Division, Department of Agriculture, advising that the department had been in communication with the Levin Borough Council on the matter of having Foxton included in the Levin abattoir district and that arrangements in this connection were now reaching finality. Letters were read from the Social Security Department relative to Scheme 13 workers, in which the council was asked to carry on with the employment of these men, but pointing out that the liberal subsidies of 1939-40 would not longer be available and that no maintenance work could be undertaken.
