EIGHTEEN DEAD.

DISASTER IN FACTORY. ROME, Jan. 31. A statement announces that 18 persons are dead as a result of the disaster in the munitions factory near Tivoli. So far the identified include a workwoman, a chemist, threo clerks, and 13 workmen. A terrific; explosion occurred in the Segni munitions factory near Tivoli. The first explosion occurred in a concrete building where hand grenades and aeroplane bombs were stored. This caused a second greater explosion in two neighbouring sheds, followed by a third final explosion. CAUSE OF EXPLOSION. STEEL INSTEAD OF COPPER. Received February 1, 10.20 a.m. ROME, Jan. 31. A statement says that the Segni explosion was due to the foreman causing sparks by using a steel chisel instead of a copper one to open a of compressed air.
