BUTTER PRICES LOWER. CHEESE SLOW. The London butter market continues quiet and prices are still falling steadily, the drop last week being 3s to 4s a cwt., according to advice received by the Primary Products Marketing Department. Friday’s closing quotations, with those for the previous week shown in parentheses, were as follow: New Zealand. —Salted, 106 s (109 s to 110 s; a year ago, 89s); unsalted. 110 s to Ills (112 s to 114 s; a year ago, 93s to 945). Australian.—Salted, 104 s to 105 s (108 s to 109:s); unsalted, 108 s (112 s). Argentine.—Unsalted, 104 s to 106 s (105 s to 109 s). Danish. —103 s f.0.b., 124 s to 125 s spot Hl2s; 1345). Dutch. —Unsalted, 110 sto Ills, ex. 115 s (112 s to 113 s). Lithuanian. —Unsalted, 113 s to 114 s (116 s). Siberian.—Salted, 104 s to 105 s. The retail price for New Zealand is unchanged at Is 2d a lb, with Danish at Is 4d. The basic rates fixed under the New Zealand guaranteed price scheme, subject to quality differentials, arc 123 s 8d for butter and 70s for cheese per cwt, f.0.b., New Zealand currency. The equivalent landed price for butter in London is 112 s, and for cheese 675. Deliveries of New Zealand butter last week were 1607 tons, compared with 1914 tons for the previous week and 2355 tons a year ago. The quantity in store amounted to 4460 tons, including. 257 tons ex I the Rangitata, compared with 4849 tons for the previous week and 7272 tons a year ago. Australian deliveries were 2199 tons, compared with 2373 tons for the previous week and 1538 tons a year ago. The quantity in store amounted to 2676 tons, against 2377 tons for the previous week and 4348 tons a year ago. The cheese market was slow last week and prices fell 2s a. cwt. English finest farmers’. —96s to 98s (96s to 98s). The New Zealand retail price remains unchanged at 9d a lb. Deliveries of New Zealand cheese last week totalled 12,585 crates, against 15,654 crates for the previous week, and 29,258 crates a year ago. The quantity in store, including 11,000 crates ex the Rangitata, amounted to 51.996 crates, compared with 50,985 crates for the previous week and 58,765 crates a year ago. Deliveries of Canadian cheese amounted to 6063 boxes, against 2202 boxes a year ago, the quantity in store being 112,568 boxes, against 98,844 boxes a year ago. Gradings of New Zealand cheese for the week ended January 22 were 25,120 crates of white and 12,703 crates of coloured, a total of 37,823 crates. '
