ECONOMIC OUTLOOK.

THE AMERICAN FACTOR. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH; Jan. 31. The belief that the major swing towards prosperity may be resumed after a brief interval and that undue pessimism in the world of business and trad© is unjustified was voiced by the chairman of the Christchurch Stock Exchange (Mr H. Kitson), in his address to the annual meeting this morning. After referring to the fears of the public that another economic disaster was imminent, Mr Kitson contended that conditions to-day were by no means identical with those ruling in the months preceding 1930. The American scene, in Mr Kitson’s opinion, was one of the main influences on the world’s economic position. At present it appeared reasonable to expect it would come out of the wood, and it was surely to be hoped that the gradual rapprochement of business and the Administration in America would revive confidence to the point where capital would again come forward to finance industrial activity.
