PAHIATUA.

PAHIATUA, Jan. 31. Mr and Mrs T. Burr have returned from a holiday spent in ' Wellington. Mr and Mrs C. G. Smyth, who have been on a camping holiday at Castlepoint, have returned home. Mr and Mrs C. S. Carrad have returned from a motor tour of the North Island. Mrs A. Tyndall, of Remuera, Auckland, was a visitor to Pahiatua over the week-end. Mrs J. Mclntosh, who has been spending a week with her sister, Mrs S. A. Wylie, lias returned to her home at Waipawa. Mr Seiton Walsh, who has been spending a holiday at Whatatutu, Gisborne, lia s returned home. Mrs G. Gregory, of Gisborne, is spending a holiday with her parents, Mr and Mrs J. A. Walsh. Mr R. DSalter, late of Raetihi, lias been selected as secondary assistant at the Pahiatua District High School. Pending the appointment of a successor to Mr M. H. Reid, Mr D. Donald, of Wellington, will be attached to the secondary school staff at Pahiatua. The Eketahuna cricket team gained a three-point win over Manganiaire, when the inter-club competitions under the control of the Bush Association were continued. Pahiatua were two men short when Mauriceville gained a three-point win at their expense. The home team, going in first, were dismissed for nine, the last six men going without scoring. Mauriceville compiled 75 and then sent Pahiatua in for a second strike, which produced 42 runs. Neilson bowled well, taking five wickets in Pahiatua’s first innings. In both the A and the B 'grade tennis matches played between the Pahiatua and Mangamutu Clubs, Pahiatua emerged the winners. The A grade match on the Pahiatua courts resulted in a win by 15 sets and 219 games to 9 sets and 184 games The B grade match was won by 15 sets and 142 games to 9 sets and 113 games.
