A HARDY VETERAN.

ALL HUMBUG’S CAREER.

PROMINENT IN SOUTHLAND. Nine years old, tho veteran All Humbug recently won three races on end in the south, and was placed third at his next start on Saturday! During his earlier career ho raced prominently on the Mana-watu-Wcst Coast circuit, particularly at Fcilding and Marton. All Humbug commenced racing in tho colours of Mr E., Bristol (Wanganui) and was trained for him by A. E. Neale, at Bulls until ho was sold to Mr W. Baird and was then taken over by G. Cameron, who saddled him up for the most important win in his career, the Riverton Cup. He was subsequently trained by F. W. Ellis and R. E. McLellan,- and both won races with him. Tho Humbug gelding commenced racing as a two-year-old and ho was contesting his ninety-eighth race when hp won the Wairaki Handicap at Wairio. He did all his racing in the North Island until he was five years old and in .that season he was purchased by tho Invercargill sportsman, Mr W. Baird, for whom he won the Riverton Cup at his first appearance in his new colours. The race was worth £4OO to tho winner and All Humbug won another £l4O before he was disposed of to another Invercargill owner in Mr Hugh Mason, who raced him for a couple of seasons and wop £356 with him before ho handed him over to his present owner and trainer, Mr G. McLean, of Riverton. Mr McLean is one of tho oldest active trainers in the Dominion and his successful association with All Humbug, whom ho has saddled up a winner in his last three starts, has been a feature of tho racing season in Southland.

All Humbug has now won 23 races, been 16 times second and ten times third in 99 starts, earning £2BOO in stakes. He is by Humbug from All Cerise, by All Black — Martian Prince, by Martian —Two Step, by Stcpniak—Far Away, by Bill of Portland —Happy Land, by Musket—Atlantis (imp.), by Thornbury.
