RANGITIKEI.
AIARTON, Jan. 28. Cr. IC. W. Dairy in pie presided at the monthly meeting of the Rangitikei Comity Council. Included in the correspondence was a letter from the Bulls School Committee advising that the AVanganui Education Board was not prepared to assist in the cost of providing a footpath on the street fronting the Bulls School, although the School Committee was prepared to pay a share of the cost. —It was left to the engineer and chairman to authorise the work when satisfactory arrangements were completed concerning payment, the council’s share not to exceed £3O. In another letter Air H. S. Langdon asked the council if it was prepared to sell part of its land acquired for a roadman’s cottage a.t Bulls.—The council decided not to sell. For the erection of a reinforced concrete culvert on Calico Line three tenders were received. It was decided to accept a tender at £354 15s, subject to the approval of the Alain Highways Board. Two tenders were received for the erection of the reinforced concrete culvert at AVhittington’s, Makirikiri Road, Alnrton. The committee recommended that one a.t £548 10s, less £2O for the removal of the old bridge (nett £528 10s), be accepted. Tire treasurer reported that the debit balance after last meeting’s payments totalled £23,590 18s. Payments since last meeting amounted to £682 3s 6d and receipts since last meeting to £7132 8s lid. After to-day’s payments of £13,876 10s 2d. the debit balance had grown to £35.017 2s 9d. Reporting on main highways, the engineer (Air S. A. R. Alair) stated: The contractors for the surfacing of the Atarton-Tura-kina highways advise me that this will be started in about ten days’ time. No tender was received for reconstruction of the A'larton-Upper Tutaenui highway. Poor progress lias been made with reconstruction work on Calico Line. I have notified the contractor that this work must be accelerated.
