OUT OF CONTROL
CAR LEAVES ROAD. PASSENGER INJURED, Pej’ Press Association. AUCKLAND, Jan. 30. One man was. seriously injured and two others had. a remarkable escape yesterday when a large sedan motor car became out of control on the Dome Valley Road, AVarkworth. While attempting to turn a corner it continued almost straight ahead, mowing down a number of white road-indicator posts before careering down a small embankment and crashing headlong into a telegraph post. The motor car was damaged almost beyond repair. The injured man, Harold Victor Griffiths, Te Hana, aged 30, a farm labourer, was treated at W.arkworth and : taken to Auckland Hospital in an ambulance suffering from a. severely lacerated leg, concussion and severe shock. His condition" was reported to be serious. The driver of the motor car was later arrested by the police. INJURIES IN COLLISION. Per Press Ascsociation, AUCKLAND, Jan. 30. A motor cyclist and a woman pillion rider were both seriously injured when their machine collided with a motor lorry at Bombay. The injured were: Miss Agnes Pollock, aged 16, daughter of Mr a.nd Mrs S. Pollock, Ponsonby; fractured left thigh. Ivan Hatton, aged 19, single, factory hand, of Ponsonby; fractured left leg. MOTORIST’S DEATH. ILLNESS WHILE DRIVING. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Jan. 30. Becoming suddenly ill while driving his motor car along the Great North Road, New Lynn, toward his home at Grafton, after visiting friends at Henderson on Saturday evening, Harry Walls, aged 60, married, pulled to the side of the road and died a few minutes later. He was accompanied by Mrs Walls. His difficulties were noticed by a motorist passing in the opposite direction, Miss A. Pope, Takaninj. Miss Pope stopped and attended Mr Walls a.nd afterward notified a doctor and the police. CAR CAPSIZES. Per Press Association. WANGANUI, Jan. 28. While travelling in the direction of Wanganui on the main highway shortlv .after 2 p.m. to-day a motor car driven by Mr Donald Thomas Sounness. Uoper Hutt. left the road near
Putiki and capsized. The ear fell ten feet into a hedge. Mr Sounness and his wife were admitted to the Wanganui Hospital. Their condition was reported to he satisfactory. A child in the car apparently escaped injury. MOTOR CYCLIST INJURED. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Jan. 30. A motor cyclist, Mr Charles Thompson, suffered severe head injuries early on Saturday morning when lie fell from his machine on Mount- Cargill. Mr Thompon, who resides at 24 Embo Street, Kew, was admitted to the Dunedin Hospital and was placed on the dangerously ill list. This afternoon his condition showed an improvement. DRIVER’S DEATH. VEHICLE LEAVES ROAD. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Jan. 30. Mr Edmund Eugene Murphy, residing at 24 Mount Street, Roslvn, was killed in a motor accident on the Wai-tati-Port Chalmers road last night. A lorry in which he was returning alone from a military camp at Waikou.uiti apparently skidded on loose shingle and. capsized against a 12-foot bank, Mr Murphv was a. prominent member of the Kaikorai Rugby Football Club and an Otago representative for the past five seasons. An inquest will be held to-morrow.
