MUNICIPAL BAND.
ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report of the Feilding Municipal Band compiled by the' president (Mr T. Collins), states, inter alia: “The year has been one of marked progress in every respect. Mr R. L. Lowe resigned the position 'of conductor and Mr J. Fleetwood was appointed on May 22 at a salary of £75 per year. The committee is indebted to Mr W. Stringer for. acting ill the interim. In conjunction with the Feildnig football executive and the Feilding Pipe Band, a most successful Queen Carnival was held, resulting in a profit to the band of £214. The hand’s nominee Miss O. Sporle, was elected queen of the carnival. Spurred on by the above effort tho campaign for raising funds was continued. Tho Borough Council made a grant of £2OO and donations from private and other sourcos raised the total of the fund to well over £SOO. In view of this splendid success the connfiittee felt justified in completingtho purchase of a set of 23 instruments at a cost of £Bll, 23 old instruments being traded in at £175. Delivery was taken early in January. The band made such satisfactory progress that it was decided to enter lor _ "13 11 grade championship at the Dominion Contest to bo Held at Palmerston North in February. It is pleasing to report that the finances of the band continue to be satisfactory, commencing the year with a credit of £314 14s Id, including £257 17s stl specially raised for the new instrument fund. Tho carolling effort returned a very satisfactory total of £52 11s, and tho committee again records its appreciation both to the band members and to donors responsible for this splendid result. The position of the finance is now such that less than £IOO, apart from donations promised, is required to complete payment of the instruments and place the band out of debt. With this result achieved the band will be possessed of free assets valued at over £looo—a unique and proud position indeed. The band is at full strength, in addition to which there is a satisfactory number of learners. In addition to the outdoor concerts, the band played at two local race meetings and assisted at various public functions. Two indoor concerts wore held and a programme broadcast from 2ZO. Practices are being well attended and tbe progress of th,e band generally is most marked. In conclusion I wish on behalf of the committees to thank tho Borough Council, tbe carnival committee, the queen (Miss O. Sporle), the promoters of special efforts and those supporters wlio so liberally assisted with donations, thereby assisting to place the band in the fortunate position it lias now attained.”
