GALE IN BRITAIN.
CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE DONE. LONDON, Jan. 29. An 80-miles-an-hour gale sweeping the United Kingdom blew down 80 per cent, of the partially-constructed pavilion at the Empire Exhibition. At the height of the 6torm a bit of granite in the South African War Memorial at the highest point of the Chiltern Hills was riven to pieces by lightning. A British Official Wireless message states that considerable damage is reported in the West of Scotland, Liverpool and elsewhere. At Pembroke (Wales) gusts exceeding 80 miles an hour, and further north 90 miles an hour, were recorded. Flooding occurred in parts of Essex. High seas are running off the western coasts.
