CHILEAN SAWFLY.
CONTROL OF BIDI-BIDI. “I havo to acknowledge your communication of January 20 regarding the Chilean sawfly,” states a letter received by the secretary of the Pahiatua central branch at the New Zealand Farmers Union Mr J A Walsh) from Dr D. Miller, chief ontomologist of tho Cawthron Institute, Nolson in reference to tho Chilean sawflv ■ and tho proposal to obtain a supply of the parasite, if possible, for experimental purposes in Makuri district. “At present we are etui in * tho experimental stage of establishing this insect in one or two solectod areas in tho North Island, and I regret very much that at tho moment we are not in a position to make general distributions, ' our first object being to get the insect well established in one or two places from which distributions can eventually bo made to other parts of tho country. . . . • However, I may say that the work with T the insect is proceeding in a very satisfactory manner so far, and I havo every -hope that wo shall succeed in controlling the bibi bidi weed.” Financial news appears on page 16.
