FIRE AT GISBORNE

SHOP GUTTED. Per Press Association. GISBORNE, Jan. 28. At 10.30 this evening fire broke out in a two-storey shop in the centre of the town, occupied by Mr N. L. Davy, hairdresser, and owned by Messrs A. Owen and F. Neill. The flames had a firm hold when the brigade was summoned. The upstairs portion, used as a storeroom, and the shop below were gutted, but smart work by the brigade prevented the blaze spreading to adjoining premises.

Mr Davy’s stock is covered by insurance, but the amount is unknown.
